One story: the reference here is to Joseph Campbell's Hero With A Thousand Faces.  Campbell's point, with which I agree, is that literature creates the story of humankind: all literature, written and  oral, of all the earth's tribes and nations reveals the journey humankind is taking, aspects of our evolving selves.
